Team Monkey Sea Monkey Run

Welcome to episode 162 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

It’s Partners month and this week we have the newish team of Sarah Keiffer and Viv Mroz, a.k.a., Team Monkey Sea Monkey Run. To say that these ladies have caught the Swimrun bug is an understatement! After racing Ödyssey Swimrun Orcas Island with the Traverse Fitness crew, they signed up for Swimrun NC soon after, and just qualified for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. Their energy is infectious and we loved this conversation.

But first…

Training Update

No major training updates this week other than now that we know what we will be doing in early September, the rest of our training calendar will be falling into place accordingly.

Shoutout

Our shoutout this week goes out to the 8 U.S. teams that qualified for Worlds. Our hope is that as the sport continues to grow here in the states, that more folks will put ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship on their bucket list of must-do events. Huge congrats on qualifying and happy training!

Wisdom Nugget of the Week

“Inner peace, then outer results. Not the other way around.” - Mark Allen

Feats of Endurance

This week’s winner is Kathryn Meinhardt. She recently posted a solid 10,000 yard swim and wore her new Löw Tide Böyz swim cap. Basically making it an automatic win but also a stout feat of endurance in its own right.

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

This Week in Swimrun

Now for the “news.”

In Sweden, Koster Swimrun announced the date of this year’s event. Or should we say dates…because this event is a three day experience with athletes arriving on Sept. 22nd to take a ferry to the Koster Islands from Strömstad, racing on the 23rd and returning home on the 24th. Included in the price are 2 nights lodging, 2 breakfasts, 2 dinners, and Kristian’s fish soup at the finish line!

Down in Portugal, Swimrun Portugal’s Azores Swimrun is scheduled for March 4th and looks to be another awesome event.

Over in France, Swimrunman’s Gorges du Verdon race is taking place on April 30th and offers 4 distance options including a 66km Ultra distance which is also an ÖTILLÖ merit race for those of you who care about that sort of thing. The Ultra distance is also considered one of the hardest Swimruns in the world for those of you who care about that sort of thing.

Finally, here in the United States, the first Swimrun of the year will be on April 22nd at Swimrun Lake James. We loved this event when we raced it in 2022 and are bummed to be missing this year’s edition.

That’s it for this week. Reach out to us if there’s any Swimrun news that you’d like for us to share on the show.

Viv and Sarah are great. It seems like destiny that they found Swimrun and in this conversation we chatted about how they got started, how they trained from afar (Sarah in Colorado and Viv in NYC), and what their plans are for the future. Note: we recorded this episode before they found out that they qualified for ÖTILLÖ, so it’s extra cool to be able to release this episode so soon after Swimrun Christmas. If you’re not super stoked after listening to this conversation, go ahead and check to make sure you have a pulse.

Enjoy!
