Ville Engberg, TOT Endurance

Welcome to episode 119 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

On the podcast this week we have Swimrunner, Endurance Coach at TOT Endurance, ÖTILLÖ Broadcaster, and our friend, Ville Engberg. We first met him in the DMs during last year’s live coverage of ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship and have kept in touch since then. If you’re super stoked–or even just run-of-the-mill stoked–on Swimrun, then you’re going to love this interview.

But first...

Training Update

Swimrun Lake James is getting so close that it’s almost time to taper! Last weekend we did a race course simulation Swimrun practice that has us feeling pretty good about our prep for the event. Famous last words??

Shoutouts

This week we are shouting out Abby Rose. Chipper met her on Catalina during the Catalina Swimrun Adventure and just wanted to say hi! Also, she did an Alcatraz crossing swim over the weekend sans wetsuit which is twice as much fun.

Feats of Endurance

This week’s winner is Sarah Estrella. She ran the Zion 100k in Utah over the weekend. This race is no joke and she crushed it. Strong work Sarah!

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

This Week in Swimrun

Welcome to the LTBz news desk!

The Bellignham Swimrun, put on by friend of the pod and race director Brent Molsberry, is scheduled for June 5th in beautiful Bellingham, Washington. We definitely encourage everyone who’s down for a chill local Swimrun event to check out Brent’s race in a few months.

The Blackwater Swimrun in Asarum Sweden has announced that this year’s race date will be Sunday, September 4th. The race offers 10k and 20k distance options and looks like a fun one.

Over in Spain, this year’s Swimrun Costa Azahar will take place on Sunday, June 5th and registration is open now!

In the feel good story department, Hugo Tormento and his training crew are racing the 47.4km Swimrunman Gorges du Verdon to raise money for pancreatic cancer research. Anyone interested in supporting them can donate to their Swimrun for ARC initiative.

That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.

Updates

We are working on logistics for a shakeout Swimrun on Friday, April 22nd at Lake James after or before packet pickup. Stay tuned to our IG feed for more details on that.

Save the date of Wednesday, May 4th at 10AM California time for the TSR Swimrun’s Annual Awards. We will be on a panel with a bunch of people who we know and love talking about our favorite topic: Swimrun.

Finally, we haz discounts!

The awesome folks at Precision Fuel and Hydration have set up the discount code LOWTIDE22 that’s good for 15% off of your first order.

Our friends at Ödyssey Swimrun gave us the code “LOWTIDEBOYZ” that is good for 15% off of your registration for any and all of their 2022 events.

Ville Engberg, TOT Endurance

It was great to finally have Ville on the show. He’s a soulful guy that loves Swimrun and sharing it with the world. In his coaching practice he works with a bunch of Swimrunners and had a lot of insights to share about training for Swimrun in general, and the World Championship in particular. We chatted with him about his own Swimrun journey, his coaching philosophy, and his tips for a successful race day in the Archipelago. Ville is an awesome dude and we loved this conversation. Enjoy!

That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review.
