Team Bröderna Bäver

Welcome to episode 116 of the Löw Tide Böyz - A Swimrun Podcast!

We have a great show for everyone this week. Joining us in Studio G are brothers Lars and Jonas Ekman, A.K.A., Team Bröderna Bäver (The Beaver Brothers.) We’ve known about this team since we first started watching Rasmus’s ÖTILLÖ hype movies and noticed these two tall, fast and generously mustachioed guys that we perennially on the podium. It was super fun to get to chat with them.

But first...

Training Update

We have an extended training update this week. The Böyz split up this weekend and engaged in separate feats of endurance (Chipper was in Catalina for the “Catalina Swimrun Challenge” and Chris ran the LA Marathon as part of a charity team with fellow Swimrunner and Kancho Boy, John) and we are sharing our “race reports” to each other for the first time here.

(Also, Swimrun Lake James is 4 weeks away)

Shoutouts/Feats of Endurance

This week we’re doing a combo feat of endurance/shout out to everyone that came out to Catalina this past weekend and made it such a memorable event. This shoutout includes several first-timers, several sherpas, some photographers, videographers, ice cream eaters, water stop volunteers, bike supporters, and generally amazing people.

So, in no particular order: Marcus, Beek, Trista, Amy, Anna, Matt, Ben, Alison, the Maestro twins Fatima and Roxan, Lindsey, Elisabeth, Greg, Bronwen, and Gwen, Chipper, Kristen, Charlie, Sonny, Liza, Tony, Laura, Abby, Kerianne, Mike, Christine (water and COKE!!) at ATWATER , and Sabrina.

Extra-special shoutout to Christine for offering coke at her water stop. It was a game changer that late in the day, and so unexpected and appreciated.

Make sure to sign up for our LTBz Strava Club and join Swimrunners from around the world as they train for stuff.

This Week in Swimrun

Welcome to the LTBz news desk. We’re keeping it short this week because we have a packed show…and we didn’t have enough time to scour instagram for event updates.

Swimrun Maryland has announced that this year’s event will take place on Sunday, May 8 at Greenbrier State Park. This race has short (9.5 miles total with 1.6 miles of swimming) and long course (18.8 miles total with 2.4 miles of swimming) distances with solo and team options available for both.

Over in France, the 2022 edition of the Anjou Swimrun is going down on May 7th. This is the 4th running of this local race and if you’ve never been to Angers or this region of western France, put it on your list!

That is it for this week. Feel free to reach out and let us know if there’s anything that you’d like for us to mention on the show.

Updates

The awesome folks at Precision Fuel and Hydration have set up the discount code LOWTIDE22 that’s good for 15% off of your first order.

Our friends at Ödyssey Swimrun gave us the code “LOWTIDEBOYZ” that is good for 15% off of your registration for any and all of their 2022 events.

Team Bröderna Bäver

Lars and Jonas are brothers, excellent athletes, and elite Swimrunners. They have done a ton of racing together and it was great to get to meet and catch up with them about their Swimrun journey and their team dynamics as siblings. We talked about a lot of stuff in this interview and even managed to get more pro tips to add to our running list for ÖTILLÖ, The Swimrun World Championship. Chipper has even been inspired to grow a righteous mustache for the race in their honor. (Chris would as well, but his wife won’t let him.) This interview was a lot of fun and proved once again that Swimrunners are some of the best folks out there. Enjoy!

That’s it for this week’s show. If you are enjoying the Löw Tide Böyz, be sure to subscribe to the show on your favorite podcast player and leave us a five-star review.
